New Member Spotlight – Osprey Tours & Handcrafted Kayaks
Osprey Tours and HandCrafted Kayaks is now launching kayaks tours off the beach behind Fins Restaurant and offering gear and kayak art from the retail space formerly occupied by PT Outdoors. Randal Monge, owner and builder of traditional aleut skin over frame kayaks, first came to Port Townsend from his Handcrafted Kayaks shop in Idaho to attend the one of the very first Wooden Boat Festivals. After Idaho, Randal and a partner started Kayak Connections in Santa Cruz CA which by the way is still going strong. After selling his partnership there, Randal moved to Orcas Island where he has continued to guide and build kayaks in the San Juan Islands for the past 20 years. He has paddled Vancouver Island, the Pacific Coast and all the San Juan Islands. Randy and Osprey Tours has been featured on the Travel Channel, Destination Wild and King Five TV Seattle, and Seattle Magazine. As a traveling artist, Randy was invited to St. George, Pribolif Islands, where he built a traditional kayak with an Aleut 5th grade class and was then visited by that same 5th grade class on Orcas Island the following year. Randal has guided many specialty tours all over the San Juan Islands and is considered a premiere guide, educator and safety-minded professional. Read More
